Be the Example

+AMDG+

Do not lord it over those assigned to you,
but be examples to the flock.

-1 Peter 5:3

I was really hooked on Breaking Bad. The directing, cinematography, acting, writing, plot twist were all excellent. Every part of that show was great. What I truly loved about the show was the plot. It felt like a villain origin story. Here was a man dealt a bad hand and made the worst of it. Basically the show was the systematic breakdown of a decent person to very disturbing person. No one's life was better because they knew him. It was a unique story that is not told much any more.

Does not glorify evil.

In the current American culture we can easily point to the glorification of drugs and drug dealers. The popularization of characters like Scarface shows this. It is as if our culture says, "Want to make fast money? Then become a drug dealer." It reminds me of Romeo and Juliet. We use them as an example of love but many forget that they died three days after knowing each other. We need better role models.  It seems like the culture is brainwashing people to only focus on the NOW, on this next immediate pleasure that can be received. The words of St. Peter are very powerful today. Be the example to others. Do not be the drug dealer, but become someone who can help others grow and be transformed by your own growth and transformation. I think what I enjoyed most about Breaking Bad is that it gave me a very vivid image of what not to do with my life.
